Hear, Hear!

State 4-1A Soccer Championship
Off a set play, Bishop Miege’s Victor Lopez fired the shot that resulted in the Stag’s first goal.

In the fall of 2016, Shawnee Mission-Bishop Miege captured their fifth state 4-1A boys soccer title dating back to 1998. However, those titles proved to be only a precursor to what the team accomplished on November 6 in Topeka.

The Stags achieved their sixth consecutive championship with a 2-1 victory over Wichita-Trinity Academy. Their latest title came on a penalty kick after a handball in the first overtime of a brilliantly played match between the two teams.

Sadly, for every winner, there must be a loser. For the past three championships, Wichita’s Trinity Academy left the field heartbroken. I hope this photo gallery will serve as my hardy toast to the victors’ six-pack of trophies, as well as another toast to the vanquished. Join me in saying, hear, hear!
